Coco, an olfactory interpretation and a tribute to the world of Mademoiselle Chanel

Coco was released in 1984 , the year Karl Lagerfeld took the reins of the couture section at Chanel. It was created in order to respect the codes of the house of Chanel while seeking a certain originality. Moreover, he was very influenced by the style of Gabrielle Chanel’s apartments. Finally, the name Coco is an affectionate tribute to Gabrielle Chanel who was called by her close friends. It is a memory of a time when she was tempted by a musical and theatrical career. We have there all the soul of Mademoiselle in a perfume.

    The world of Coco Chanel

By creating this essence, Jacques Polge, keen to respect the style and image of Coco Chanel, imagined an olfactory rendering of the universe that lined his apartments. Indeed, he immersed himself in the baroque atmosphere of his home on rue Cambon. The latter was also surprised when he went there for the first time. The decor was far from the couture style and rather evoked a decoration of Baroque influence: gilded mirrors and other screens in Coromandel lacquer were present. Then, he remembered the old creations of the house such as Bois des Iles, Sycamore or Cuir de Russie.

The baroque style was there and he decided to revive this spirit through these new scents. Also, Coco becomes a vibrant tribute to Mademoiselle Chanel. It restores the most unknown aspect of its style, associating a chic stripped to the extreme with a certain extravagance of the accessory and the spirit. Coco embodies a paradox between the classic and the exotic. It is spicy and suave and lets imagine a universe where the density of blacks counterbalances the exuberance of gold.

Chanel offers itself a symbol of luxury

Coco is a voluptuous and seductive fragrance. It is a very faceted spicy oriental. Also, Jacques Polge has chosen to use spices and woody notes, around a rich floral heart bringing opulence and femininity to the composition. It opens with the scent of orange blossom from the Comoros, peach and frangipani. In addition, its scent is also slightly citrus.

Then, quickly, her floral heart takes over. It combines the radiance of the blackcurrant bud from the Moluccas Islands with jasmine from India and roses from Bulgaria and Turkey. Sensuality and femininity are omnipresent. In addition, this floral dimension is enhanced by a strong presence of spices, in particular cloves and cinnamon, bringing character to the whole. The whole takes us little by little towards a more woody and amber background, full of sandalwood, patchouli and vanilla.

You can also smell Caribbean cascarilla, opoponax, benzoin from Siam, tonka bean and sandalwood from Mysore. Coco is a real world tour of flavors that we offer you for less. However, it remains nonetheless luxurious. Its bottle is a symbol of luxury and perfection. It is faithful to the silhouette of Chanel perfumes imposed by No. 5 since 1921. In this case, it is a glass rectangle with slightly bevelled edges and the stopper of which is cut like an emerald. Simplicity is mixed with sophistication and its black label edged with gold is a final nod to the rich decor of Mademoiselle Chanel’s apartments.

Oriental-floral, an exuberant, carnal and voluptuous flight.

A captivating and sensual fragrance. An invitation to travel to the gates of the Orient.
